For you

Sometimes I feel you are the only chain
Holding me back to sanity
The dreams of tomorrow at the end of the world
The warrior’s strongest weapon: not his sword but his heart
A ray of warmth in the coldest, darkest winter
But the most important things in the world are also the most overlooked
And so I walk, a blind man
The light of life illuminating my way.

The Violator

I saw you that night
Your naked body, glistening
Like a Greek goddess carved out of stone
Tempting me to cross all restraints

But I saw you that night
And your radiant smile
That must have stolen many a boy's heart
Frozen onto your cold, cold lips

And I saw you that night
Beautiful, as always
Inside, as much as outside
On the autopsy table.

There are no Gods of the Sun

Man, in his infinite arrogance
Sneers down at the world, feels
all the rules in the Matrix can be broken
The clock of the universe ticks on-
Life is highly overrated.

Solitary

The silent night
Stares down on me;
The stars twinkle.
No moonlight
To show me my path.
No breeze
Blowing across my face.
A single leaf falls down
As I look upon
The solitary tombstone.
Mine

(This poem won me a poet of the year award at college)

Wasted:

Bruised ego
Tattered pride
Broken hopes
Futile dreams
Scarred memories
Faithless love
Empty bottles
Cigarette stubs
A cocked revolver
Awaits the russian roulette.

Unrequitted

The cloud, touched by the moonlight to his core
Longs for her
Blissfully unaware
That his quest for her is to remain unfulfilled
Forever.

Lost & Love

Earth
Ravished, scorched
To dust
By the merciless gaze
Of the summer sun
But now, relief has arrived
In the form of rains
Soon flowers would bloom

Rise again!

The darkest night ever,
When all seemed lost
The Knight sank to his knees
Broken, shattered;
The hour of despair;
When suddenly
The clouds somewhat parted
And the moon shone across his face
Touched his heart
And he, uttered a soft prayer
Stood up, unsheathed his sword
For the battle to redemption

Heroes

They soaked the ground with their blood
So that others may live
May reap their blood-soaked harvest.
Patriots
Heroes of the nation;
While the nation basks in their glory
In a corner
A famished orphan and a sick widow
Shed tears
Silently.

Introspection

I stood before myself
naked;
in nervous anxiety
Waiting for my judgement.

My eyes combed every inch of my body
Thoroughly,carefully
That's routine-
To make sure I hid nothing.

Then started the interrogation
Merciless;
Attempting to crush me
But I held on:

And thus was pronounced the verdict,by me;
Unto myself;
Accompanied by a warning;
I was an innocent man again.

Descent

The veil of mist covers the centuries
A forgotten past, from another era;
Concealed, safe, in a labyrinth.
Even the devil was human once
Before his fall was caused.

One's demons are one's own
A scarred background, unknown;
An album, smeared with blood;
A fairytale, where the sun never rises
Over the gory nightmare.

No hope, no redemption
Only vengeance and hatred
Even the heart throbbed with compassion
Before hatred conquered it
And man became animal.

Frustration

The lame taste of water in your mouth
When you just thought
You were going to taste blood;
The feel of cold water, into your face-
Just when you thought you were flying
And wake up to realise you are sinking
In your own dark, hollow, watery grave;
You clutch at the moon
And open your palms
Only to find a fistful of sand;
You set yourself ablaze,
And instead of the perfume of sweet success
All you smell is you own overburnt flesh;
Your indomitable castle
Of pride, of honour, strength and confidence
Crumbling into nothingness;
When, in the race to vindicate yourself
You only manage to bruise yourself;
When, in the battle of nerves,
All you manage to do is to snap your's,
Is all lost?

NO!
The phoenix never burns himself out
But rises from the ashes, glorious as ever;
What is an eagle, that doesn't soar high
After suffering initial setbacks?

The sun has only eclipsed
It will come out from the dark again
Blazing in its own Glory.

Awakening

Silence
In the great hall
Except for his breathing
Not a wind, to disturb him
Not a soul, to call out to him,
To wake him, from his deep slumber
Lasting through aeons
While the world went about
Its routine business
Forgetting about their long awaited messiah;
But now their body stirs
And the blood-red eyes open
As the hand slowly moves
Towards the sheathed sword.

Disillusioned

When the castle of faith crumbles
And the bubble of belief collapses
Where does one go?
When loyalty cries of betrayal
And trust decays
Whom does one turn to?
When love becomes poison
And fire runs through the veins
What does one do?
Where lies the path
For the disillusioned?

A Transition from Pessimistic to Optimistic

I try to look through the clouds
Into the skies beyond
Where the sun is shining
In his majestic glory.
I can't. I've been avoiding
The sun for so long
That I now remember not
What he looked like.
I keep trying nevertheless.
I try, perhaps for the first time
to nurse my wounds
old, some dating back to eons
Festering, kept open by my own self;
Now they are hard to heal.
I try, nonetheless.
I had smiled, too often,
To hide my tears
Now I smile without tears.

The World doesn't change
Only my view has
I've looked through a smoked glass
A time too long
Now I intend to make it transparent.

Adieu

Standing on the seashore
Looking at the obscure stars.
The waves wash away
My footprints on the sand;
The sun inches towards dawn.
I look at the sea. Endless.
For me as well as those who succeed me.
Soon, the day will wipe out any trace
That this night ever existed.
Only the dew on the grass, and my memories
Its last remnants.

(This was my poem for the college yearbook)

Why should I cry for you?

You were my angel
who gave me hope, when I had none
Gave me strength, and courage;
You were my cocaine, my Holy Grail
The eternal fire on Mount Olympus.
You were there beside me
When I faced the wrath of Gods;
Kept me sane
When I shouldn't have been.
I lost myself, in the depth of your eyes
And in the euphoria that came over me
With your smile,
When I touched your hands
Kissed your lips.

You are my demon
Who never fails to haunt me
In my dreams;
Never fails to arouse a painful memory
When I get drunk at night;
Never fails to make my heart bleed,
Even today, when I come across your name.
You have made life hell for me.
But I bear no grudges.
You have taught me to be strong:
To live in agony, and yet, to live
The meaning of the words
Anger, Frustration, Depression and Hatred
And what it is, to live with them;
You have made me wise, and old.
So thank you,
And goodbye, my love- my hatred.

Not a Poet

I am not a poet
I just vent my frustration
Pain, sorrow, anger
On a piece of paper
When it becomes too hard to contain
Within.

I am not an atheist
I just find it hard
To listen to the words
Of a God
Whose words don't reach to me
In the first place.

I am not a rebel
I just find it pointless
To try to flow with the current;
To attempt to fit in, when I don't
And to pretend to be something I am not
Remotely.

Haiku

Have you ever seen a Mother
Smile through her pain?
A single drop of tear falls from her eyes
A pearl in the ocean.

Internship

(Written on 27/9/2007-that was the initial title)

Sitting in my office

I furiously type on, desperate for a distraction
The hammering in my head grows louder.
I gulp down a little cold water
Listen to some soft music
Try to relax my brain.
Nothing works.
The effects of having a peg too many
Threatens to puncture my mind
I cry to God for deliverance
Atone, for all sins ever committed in my life;
I run off to the restroom
And open the tap on my head
After a while, the prayers and the cold water
Seem to do the trick
The pain subsides
And as I walk back to my desk
My mind is filled with the reverie
of the dazzling night to come
and of the colourful goblets and flagons.
